The Great Mill (Wielki Młyn) was built in 1350 by German knights. With its six-story gabled roof, it was one of the largest in Europe; no fewer than 18 mill wheels ground the grain. Today the building houses an amber museum.

The Big Mill (Wielki Młyn) is located on Radaune Island, around which the canal branches. It was built in the middle of the 14th century and was long considered the largest mill in Europe. This makes the mill one of the most important commercial buildings of the Middle Ages.

The Teutonic Order erected the brick building after the monks had excavated the Radaune Canal, with whose water the first 12 and later 18 mill wheels were driven. This functioned until 1945 and was then destroyed during the war. In the remaining building there are now several shops and some of the large mill wheels can still be seen.

In the Great Mill, the Gdańsks were able to grind their flour within the city walls during siege times.
