The Catholic parish church Maria Himmelfahrt was founded in the 13th century by the Teutonic Order. However, only the tower with double arcades divided by Ionic columns on the upper floor has been preserved. The rest was gradually renovated from 1950 to 2012.

The patronage "Maria (or Mariä) Himmelfahrt" of this Waldbreitbacher church refers to one of the many days of commemoration or feast days in honor of the mother of God Maria. It goes back to the feast of their physical acceptance into heaven, which the Church celebrates annually on August 15th.
In many rural areas it is common for the people to collect herbal bundles (called "Kruggweusch" in the Rhenish dialect) and bless them in the festive service on this day.

The Catholic parish church Maria Himmelfahrt, which can be reached via a staircase from the main street, was founded by the Teutonic Order in the 13th century. Only the tower with double arcades on the upper floor, divided by Ionic columns, has survived from this period. The bell was cast by Johannes Berdaller from Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein in 1694. The nave was rebuilt from 1876 to 1878 after its predecessor was torn down, according to the plans of the architect Reinhold Wirtz. After destruction in the Second World War, the church was gradually renovated (1950-1976-2012) and repainted according to the historical models.

In the run-up to Christmas, a natural root nativity scene is set up in the church, it is the largest natural root nativity scene in the world. Around 50 valuable figures from the Christmas story and over 85 animals can be admired, between 95 living plants and rustic natural roots, flowing streams, a waterfall and many other lovely details.

The nativity scene, which has been growing for years, with a floor space of 92 square meters and a height of 7.50 m, can be admired punctually for the 1st Advent (before December 24th with a pre-Christmas theme) until February 2nd, the feast of Maria Lichtmeß (daily closed visit 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., not during church services).
Unfortunately, the crib cannot be set up at Christmas 2020 due to Corona.
