Welcome to Fjordstien and Sorte Bakker

Fjordstien (the Fjord Path) and Sorte Bakker (Black Hills) have been recreational areas for both the town of Ringkøbing and the surrounding area for the last 100 years.

Fjordstien is a 3.5 km combined foot and cycle path with a unique route along Ringkøbing Fjord at the foot of the old coastal slope.

At the top of the slopes there is a footpath with a fantastic view of the fjord area.

The slopes guarded by bushes are the highest points along the fjord coast - about 9 meters above sea level. The Heart Association uses Fjordstien as a heart path.

The outermost nature area in the southeast is called Sorte Bakker. The fjord's fishermen used to use the area as a beacon, and when you looked from the fjord at the heather-covered hills, the hills were black - hence the name.
Sort Bakker were grazed by cattle until the 1960s and the vegetation was therefore heather, single trees and rose hips.
Maintenance of the area is now done mechanically/manually and the starting point is that no undesirable tree and bush species have to dominate the area. Potato rose or apple rose, willow, late-blossoming bird cherry and broom are of particular interest.

The area from the town hall to the old Bydige (city dyke) at Surfpladsen (near the surfing area) is included in the 1975 Nature Conservation Decree. The protected city dike is from 1790 and can be seen at Fjordstien as a deep ditch in the hillside.

Path system, public facilities and guards along Fjordstien will be thoroughly renovated from 2010-2012. The mission is intended to contribute to the preservation and development of this very unique natural area, so that the area can continue to be used for recreation.
