With a length of 46 km and a catchment area of 429 km², the Talfer is the second largest tributary of the Eisack. The highest elevation in the Sarntal, which is drained by the Talfer, is at 2781 m (Hirzer). At an altitude of 260 m, the Talfer flows into the Eisack in Bolzano.
