Beautiful view from the Uellenbecke of the church, village and bridge on the Schemm. Legend has it that the road was to be built further down, directly behind the houses. Because a resident was concerned about her children near the road, she asked the workers to build the road further up. The planner is said to have been horrified later. Pragmatic and flexible 50s!

The monastery was founded by the Knights of the Cross in the 13th century; the current monastery church dates from 1497, although the portal probably comes from the previous building. After the abolition during secularization, Cardinal Frings sent crusaders to Beyenburg again. Today it is the last monastery in Wuppertal that is still occupied by a monk.
