Cycling
Behind the church is a Belgian military cemetery for the fallen of WWI. The cemetery also contains several British graves. Flemish artist and soldier Joe English was once buried in the cemetery before being interred in the crypt of the IJzertoren (Yser Tower).
Steenkerke is also the village where artist and honorary citizen of Veurne, Willem Vermandere, lives.
