Rural church located north of the Steengracht. The civil cemetery is enclosed by a hedge and enjoys old linden trees. The large Sacred Heart statue keeps an eye on its pedestal.
Behind the church is a Belgian military cemetery with fallen from WWI. The cemetery also contains several British graves. Flemish artist and soldier Joe English was once buried in the cemetery before being interred in the crypt of the Yser Tower.Steenkerke is also the village where artist and Veurnse honorary citizen Willem Vermandere lives.translated by
