The approximately 245 km long Oxenweg ('Hærvejen') was the central land route between Denmark and northern Germany in the 19th century. It served farmers as a route for cattle, but was also used by knights, soldiers, merchants, pilgrims and beggars as a direct route to the south. Today, cyclists get an insight into the natural and cultural history of northern Germany and Denmark on the tour along the historic land route. Away from busy traffic routes, the route leads through wide moor areas and marshes, through forests and typical North German meadows and heath landscapes, past lakes and along rivers. On the way you drive through attractive cities such as Neumünster and Rendsburg and get to know numerous villages and communities along the way.
