The Klempenow castle complex, built in the 13th century, is the only surviving lowland castle in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. After alterations in the 17th and 18th centuries, it began to fall into disrepair in the 19th century. Since 1991, an association has been busy renovating the castle and reviving it culturally.
