The former town guard in Wismar's old town, Am Markt 11, was built in 1858.
The building is a listed building. Today it is home to the
Town Hall - Citizens' Service Center Wismar with the Tourist Information.The three-storey, historicizing northern part of the former town guard was built in 1858 according to plans by Helmuth Brunswig as the main guard, fire station and prison
(three detention cells in the attic preserved until 2002). It was given the distinctive cornice in the English Tudor style, which is more common in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
(e.g. Arsenal Schwerin, Wittenburg Town Hall, Carolinenpalais Neustrelitz, Hohendorf Castle, Kittendorf Manor, Varchentin Castle, Vogelsang Manor).

The police station has been here since 1919. In the 1930s, the ground floor of the extension building housed commercial premises. From around 1950, the city building authority, council archives and health authority were housed here. In the early 1990s, the tourist information office moved into the renovated rooms. The building was renovated in the 1990s and from 2013 to 2015. It now serves as the town hall - Wismar Citizens' Service Center with the tourist information office.In front of the city guard there are two cast-iron cannons from the Thirty Years' War,
