The Bohlenweg was recently renovated extensively and is now accessible again. It is really great and always worth a detour. It is fun to walk on the floating, somewhat rocky path through the moor - a clear recommendation from me.
The Stellmoor-Ahrensburger tunnel valley is particularly interesting from a geological point of view. During the last ice age, melt water flowed away in tunnels below the glacier, so that the subsoil was cut to different degrees. Many Stone Age finds have also been discovered in this area.
Here you can forget the time on the hiking and walking trails. On the Alfred Rust hiking trail you follow the traces of the first settlers and you can use information boards to get a comprehensive picture of the geology and the archaeological significance of the tunnel valley.

The approximately 7 kilometers long and 0.2 to 2 kilometers wide Tunneltal lies on the axis Rahlstedt / Ahrensburg and includes the lowlands in which the Wandse, the Stellmoorer source flow and the Hopfenbach flow. The tunnel valley is completely protected. Actually, these are 2 contiguous nature reserves:The Hamburg part, the nature reserve Stellmoorer Tunneltal, is 202 hectares, the nature reserve Stellmoor-Ahrensburger Tunneltal in Schleswig-Holstein has a surface of 339 hectares. The tunnel valley forms a natural unity with the adjacent nature reserve Höltigbaum. Due to the archaeological and geological uniqueness of this area is particularly worthy of protection. The tunnel valley was formed towards the end of the last ice age (about 15,000 years ago) by the outflowing meltwater, which made its way in a tunnel under the ice. The landscape formed by this is today characterized by Knicks, wet meadows and field crops. With its dry grasslands, rugged forests and wetlands, the Tunneltal valley is an important retreat for endangered plants and animals. The tunnel valley has become known for its unique concentration of prehistoric sites from the early Paleolithic. Excavations by Alfred Rust in the 1930s have produced reindeer hunters' stone, wood and bone implements, as well as large numbers of hunting bag remains. In the northwestern part of the forest Hagen you will find the remains of the medieval castle Arnesvelde, which existed until 1594. In the lowlands of the Hopfenbach lies the walled main castle with its oval ground plan. On a tongue of land projecting from the east into the lowland, there is a spacious outer bailey protected by a section wall and

In any season, it is fantastic to walk this floating path. When it's wet, it can be very slippery.

The new moor path now consists of individual floating pontoons, which are interconnected. This allows the path to adapt to the different water levels! Class!

The Ahrensburg tunnel valley connects to the Stellmorer tunnel valley. These valleys were formed during the last ice age, when the melt water of the glaciers made its way. The extensive nature reserve offers variety in the green. Quarry forests, swamp landscapes, agricultural land. But also historically significant places, such as the archaeological monument from the 14th century, the rampart of the medieval "Arnesvelde Castle" are on the way.
Forest and water areas characterize the area. "Brauner Hirsch" and "Dänenteich" can be found as partial stages. The forest Hagen connects to the nature reserve.
The moor hiking trail through the marsh is particularly exciting, especially for children. A, sometimes fluctuating, "stick bridge" leads through the green realm of frog and dragonfly.

A really worth seeing footbridge that goes a few 100 meters through the Stellmoor. Quaint moor landscape and today with constant rain a special experience with the many water below your feet.

After the storm "Sabine" (early February 2020) there was plenty of water. As a result, the first part of the web is quite "steep" upwards. 🤔 At least I think so. 😉
