The Wandse also forms the border between Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein here.
Because the original source was diverted, the Wandse is now fed exclusively by low water in the surrounding area. Therefore, the Wandse only flows intermittently throughout the year in Höltigbaum and usually dries up by May. Only after the confluence with the Stellmoor source river does the Wandse transform into a constantly flowing river.
