Boizenburg Town Hall

Like many other houses and parts of the city church of St. Mary, the newly completed Boizenburg Town Hall in 1709 was also the victim of a major fire in which more than 150 houses were destroyed by the flames. The engineer Jakob Reutz then redesigned the city center. In order to be better able to cope with fire protection, the center was given a checkered floor plan and at the same time its Baroque style. In the center of the marketplace should stand as before the new city hall. Today, the freestanding building is one of the most significant examples of baroque half-timbered architecture. The special feature of this two-storey half-timbered building is the arcade, which extends over the entire front and is supported by wooden supports. The middle of the derelict mansard roof crowns an open lantern tower and in the entrance area of the town hall the portico was preferred. The colonnades with the old city scales on the ceiling beams still remind of the earlier market activity.As part of the general urban renewal, the town hall was extensively renovated from 1993 to 1996 and restored in its original form from 1711.
