The Zimmerlin House was built in 1540 by master tailor Henry Goldstein. This Renaissance half-timbered house at 7 Rue des Serruriers in Colmar was acquired by Emile Zimmerlin, a butcher and sausage maker, and renovated in 1929. The multicolored wrought-iron sign on the facade was created in 1930 by master blacksmith Eugène Greiner based on a design by Jean-Jacques Waltz, known as "Hansi." The sign depicts a lion with an axe, the symbol of the butchers' union, surrounded by sausages. This sign is supported by a magnificent gallows adorned with the coat of arms of Colmar, a Z, and an Alsatian woman in traditional costume leading a pig.
