The first known owner of the place is Councilor Timme Nielsen Rosenkrantz from Stensballegård. In 1452 he acquired the farm.

The Renaissance Engelsholm Castle is beautifully situated on the shore of Engelsholmer See, surrounded by forest and park.

The castle was built in 1592 by Knud Brahe, brother of Tycho Brahe.

The building has square towers in each corner. Inspiration comes from the Castle of Ancy-le-Franc in Burgundy, France.

In the 1730s, Gerhard de Lichtenberg began extensive restoration and rebuilding of the palace. Among other things, he added the striking onion domes, built a large three-story breeding farm and laid out the park in the French style.

Gerhard de Lichtenberg also left his mark at the nearby Nørup Church, which belonged to Engelsholm Castle from 1586 to 1935. The Romanesque church is richly decorated with Baroque-style furnishings and, like the castle, has onion-shaped domes.

The castle burned down in 1952 but was immediately restored to its original form.

Engelsholm Castle has operated as a college since 1940 and is now owned by the independent institution Engelsholm Højskole. The castle and the other annexes are not open to the public, but there are regular events, e.g. classical concerts. From the outside, however, the castle can be seen from the southern part of the park.
