Bondgate Tower, a gatehouse constructed in the 15th century using sturdy stone, has three levels. It was built by the Earl of Northumberland. In 1434, King Henry V gave permission to build a protective wall around Alnwick, which took more than fifty years to finish.
At the front, there's a central archway for vehicles, flanked by two polygonal towers. Above the archway, you can still see the worn outline of the Percy Lion. It's also called "Hotspur Gate" and was originally one of four gates in the medieval town wall.

Bondgate Tower also known as the Hotspur Tower or the Hotspur Gateway in reference to Sir Henry Percy commonly known as Harry Hotspur son of the 1st Earl of Northumberland and father of the 2nd Earl of Northumberland. Although commonly called a tower it is actually a gatehouse of three stories constructed of stone and consists of a recessed archway flanked by two polygonal towers.
