Setting off from Vicar Water Country Park, this was a chilly 8/9 miles… the temperature display in the care was saying -2degrees and it certainly felt it, with the lakes at Vicar Water being frozen over. Nice and flat, and dry due to everything being frozen, although I could see parts of this walk have been extremely muddy otherwise. This will be a good walk to do again when the weather warms up a bit, and there would also be more daylight to extend the walk across to Sherwood Forest somewhat.

First time back up Lady Cannings since they’ve done a bit of work on the Blue Steel track. It’s a lot better, but would benefit from some drier weather to help ‘set’ the refinished berms. Hopefully Cooking On Gas will get some love too, although the track still runs really well, and isn’t in as much need of any work just yet. Best of all was the weather, a bit cold, but absolutely fantastic wall-to-wall sunshine all day ☀️

Been ages since I hit the downhill trails at Greno, so I factored them into todays loop. Halfway down ‘Pub Run’ I began to wonder where I was… the Forestry Commission have been in there again and cut down great swathes of the trees! Nowhere near as messy as a few years back, so the trail is unaffected. No other bikers about, but that’s probably par the course for a cold and damp Tuesday afternoon in January.

A Boxing Day walk to blow away the cobwebs… a bit wet and miserable, but it didn’t seem to have stopped many people from getting out, and I always like to see people enjoying the outdoors!

Fantastic weather made this flat walk from Worksop out to Creswell Crags and back an absolutely superb day to be outside enjoying the crisp December sunshine!

A cold, wet ride… it may have packed in raining in Sheffield centre, but as soon as I got near the top end of Rivelin, it started pouring down! Standard for this time of year I suppose.
It did mean the waterfalls in Wyming Brook we that bit more spectacular though.

I was going to put a few laps of Parkwood Spings in, but decided against it (no idea why!) so I dropped back down through Wardsend Cemetery and then headed up into Wharncliffe Woods. Made a right mess navigating back down one of the trails and ended up ‘off piste’ and making my own line back down to the main bridleway. The rain yesterday didn’t help, as a usually dry section was a veritable waterfall, so I ended up carrying the bike down the last stretch… made for some good pictures though 👍

I managed to drag myself out for a few hours, and just about avoided the rain and hailstorm by sheltering under the crags for ten minutes. Fortunately it packed in so I got to do the return leg without getting too wet. Very much an out and back linear ride as you’ll see from the map!

First ride in 5/6 weeks due to having been wiped out somewhat by Covid, hence the slower and steadier pace. Took a gentle pedal up out of Sheffield to see the work I was told had been done up at Lady Cannings…don’t expect too much if you make the trip up there. I’d assume it’s just to help the place make it through the winter months. If you ride up, be aware that the part of the bridleway is now shut for a few weeks, however you can get through via Forge Dam.

Not having been up to Wharncliffe for a few weeks, it was a bit of a surprise to see the forestry commission have been in there and removed quite a large area of trees… fortunately as it’s been pretty dry recently the track marks of the machinery weren’t an absolute quagmire of unrideable mud (this happened in Grenoside the other year and made a real mess!)Hit a few of my favourite downhill tracks, but had to forgo the Incredible ‘Stella Sends’ line due to only having my half shell helmet on.
