The DFDS ferry between Newcastle and IJmuiden (Amsterdam) is a great connection for cyclists and other holidaymakers to get to the north of England and vice versa in an overnight sailing time. From Newcastle you can quickly go in all directions, from national parks such as the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District, to beautiful places such as the North Penninnes. Of course it is also a great connection to travel from further to Scotland, by bike, or further by train.
