Dating back 2000 years, the Tynemouth Castle was once one of the largest forified areas in England. Perched atop a hillside overlooking the North Sea and River Tyne, the castle has stunning panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.

The castle has witnessed many eras of history, beginning as an Iron Age settlement, before becoming an Anglo-Saxon monastery, royal castle and World War II coastal defence.

You can visit the castle from 10am to 6pm daily. Tickets cost £7 for adults.

The more than 2000 years old castle perched on a cliff above the North Sea. It is served as a defense by threats against the River Tyne. When you visit the castle, you have a fantastic view of the North Sea and the River Tyne, which flows into the sea.

Makes a nice backdrop photo if you are doing the end of the coast to coast cycle ride (there does not seem to be any kind of end of route marker)
