Tips

  • The beautiful brick building from the imperial era, designed by Max Heinrichs, opened its doors for the first time in 1901 as the "High School for Girls". A school where young girls from the upper bourgeoisie learned the etiquette of the time at the beginning of the 20th century.
With subjects such as needlework, singing, basic knowledge of foreign languages and general knowledge, the girls were prepared for their social tasks, especially for their later domestic duties as wives and mothers.
Later, the girls' school was given the beautiful name "Luisenschule". A linden tree was planted in front of it.
In the socialist state of the GDR, gender segregation was abolished and a diverse vocational school for bakers, carpenters, office clerks and many other professions was established within the old walls for decades. ▪︎▪︎》

  • ▪︎▪︎》On September 3rd, 1986, the school was given the name of the former GDR citizen "Tamara Bunke". The parents and even officials from Cuba had come to the ceremony. Tamara had worked for the Cuban secret service as a young woman and was close friends with Ernesto "Che" Guevara. The guerrilla struggle in Bolivia became their common destiny. In 1967 both lost their lives there in a dramatic way. However, the honorary name Bunke did not make it into the memory of the people of Wolgast.
Until the 2000s, the "former vocational school" served as a municipal multi-purpose building, substitute school, driving school and adult education center, then it stood empty for two years, the heating burst and general decay began. The building has been used as a Protestant school since 2016.
