The red hall was put into use in 1928 as Thyborøn's first auction hall.
In 1929 around 2,600 tons of fish worth around DKK 1.6 million were landed in Thyborøn. Today the fish auction takes place at the Thyborøn Fish Auction Center. Fish shipments in recent years have been around 320,000-350,000 tons with a value of around 500-600 million DKK.
The hall was originally built so that two cutters could unload at the same time.
From the auction hall, the fish sold was transported to the storage sheds on the harbor handcarts. Already in the 1930s there was a lack of space - the number of landings more than doubled in the period 1930-1939 and the cutters had become larger.
Fish auctions were held in the Red Hall until the mid-1950s.
Since then, the hall has u. served as a framework for city and harbor festivals, fish shops and tourist information.
