The Sea Rescue Service in Denmark was founded by C.B. Claudi, who witnessed many terrible accidents in his youth. These experiences made him travel to England around 1840 to get to know the newly established rescue service, the first in the world. On his return he began a similar project in Denmark, which led to Denmark's first lifeboat being stationed in Langerhuse in 1846.

This first lifeboat quickly proved unsuitable and was replaced as early as 1847 by an unsinkable lifeboat equipped with a line launcher, donated by the Masonic lodge in Copenhagen.

In the period from 1847 to 1923, 736 people were rescued from 65 accidents - with the help of the boat from the Flyvholm rescue station and a rocket that brought the rescue rope.

The rescue station is now set up as a museum and can be visited every day during the summer months - also by appointment.

Thanks to modern communication and navigation equipment, it is now possible to provide effective sea rescue from Thyborøn.
