The approach to the old tunnel from above is more of a disaster for cyclists. Badly paved and very steep, so better push. But the effort is worth it in the end, because down by the Ruhr there are nice shady places right by the water, especially on hot days

It's really not a highlight :-( The descent/ascent is very steep and with extreme potholes in the completely destroyed asphalt, the tunnel is low, pitch dark and always wet - but it's the way to the Ruhr (and then it's worth it again ).
