Bike Touring Highlight
Here it is worth to get off the bike and listen to the sound of the Ruhr for a while. Two small but wide steps ensure that the water of the Ruhr falls from one basin to the next at this point. The waterfalls provide a beautiful backdrop for a little rest.

At the weir in Hattingen you can have a good break and watch water sports.
The weir is not a waterfall, but an artificially created barrage to use the water power in the neighboring Birschelmühle. There is also the old lock, which is still functional, a boat slide and a fish ladder.
Opposite the weir is the Landhaus Grum, which offers both a beer garden and a place for celebrations.

This bridge must always be crossed, if one drives the Ruhrtalradweg. For this one drives on the north bank a loop and follows the course of the road, on the south bank was a section with small bends for the cyclists set up. The bridge itself has several bays where you can bike and enjoy the view of the Ruhr.

Marking this point on the towpath in Hattingen with the city of Hattingen is questionable for me as a Hattinger, as you did not experience passing Hattingen.
If you look at the highlight but not from Hattinger point of view, but on a regional level, it makes perfect sense.
The Ruhrtalradweg leads past here, so the inclined cyclist proudly calls Hattingen as a highlight of his route.
Nevertheless, the good advice to those passing through, at least an hour for the historic old town to treat.
