Hverir, also known as Hverarönd, is one of the most active geothermal areas in all of Iceland. It is known for its moon-like landscapes, characterized by ocher landscapes, numerous fumaroles and boiling mud pools. Despite the intense smell of sulfur, the curious geothermal activity attracts visitors to walk along the paths of Hverir and marvel at the natural wonders of the earth. Due to the high heat of the underground at Hverir, it is very important not to leave the indicated paths, both to preserve the impressive landscapes and to avoid being burned by the steam of the fumaroles or setting your foot in a boiling mud pool .
