History of Alp Flix
Alp Flix is located on a plateau at almost 2000 m above sea level in the municipality of Surses. Standing water created a moorland landscape. Alp Flix was conquered around 600 years ago by German-speaking Walsers who migrated from Avers via Bivio or Alp Faller. They cleared the Alp Flix plain and used it for agriculture. Various settlements, Las Curts, Tga Lucas, Tga d'Meir and Salategnas, were built and inhabited. According to the documentation, around 200 people lived on Alp Flix around the year 1500. The plague epidemic of 1629 and 1630 decimated the population of Sur and Alp Flix very severely and a few years later the residents of Alp Flix moved to Sur to build their livelihoods there. From this point on, Alp Flix was managed as a Maiensäss from Sur. Today, a few families live on Alp Flix all year round. The German magazine Geo spent a day scientifically examining and documenting the plant and animal species. This gave rise to the Alp Flix Treasure Island project.
