Beautiful, cozy mountain house on Alp Flix.

Berghaus Piz Platta, Alp Flix from 1908 to today
The Hotel Piz Platta was built in 1908 by Gion Grisch. Gion Grisch was a citizen of Sur. He was born on August 4, 1838 and emigrated to France as a young boy, where he worked successfully as an architect. He also started a family there and was known as a very vital person with big ideas.
At the beginning of the century before last, already a man of old age, Gion Grisch returned to Sur. He built a house with a tower in the middle of Furnatsch, on Julierstrasse. This house has recently been beautifully renovated.
In winter Gion Grisch lived in Sur and in summer he stayed in his hotel on Alp Flix. He originally had the idea of setting up a sports center on Alp Flix together with the director of the Hotel Palace in St. Moritz, Caspar Badrutt. A cable car was also planned that would lead from the plain in front of Mulegns, where military installations now stand, to Alp Flix. However, for various reasons, the collaboration with the director of the Hotel Palace did not work out and Gion Grisch built the Hotel Piz Platta alone.
In France, Gion Grisch got to know and appreciate French cuisine. He began making “French” cheese on Alp Flix. This little cream cheese was exquisite, made with cream and herbs. The buyers of his product primarily consisted of guests at the Palace Hotel in St. Moritz, as the cheese was considered a specialty for “better” people. Gion Grisch was also popular with farmers because he paid a good price for milk and cream at the time.
        …………………………….
Since June 2020, the new tenants have been called Mary and Tobias.
After a few positions in large gastronomy, hotel management school and a multi-year excursion into culinary product development, they will continue to run the Berghaus with a backpack full of knowledge and competence and with the usual hospitality.
