The Driedijkenpunt is a striking spot in the special river country. Battles against the water have been taking place here for a long time. Ten floods in the past three centuries; on average one every thirty years. The Maas used to flow into the Waal here. Now they are kept separate from each other.
By far the most beautiful and striking object at the Driedijkenpunt is the artwork “Waterland” by Cor Litjens. Lutjens is a real Maas & Waler himself. He was commissioned to create a work of art to celebrate the reinforcement of the dikes after the high water in 1995.

The sculpture has an incredible number of details to discover. You can also play with perspectives and incidence of light for photos.

A unique place in the Netherlands. This is where three dykes meet: the Maasdijk, the Waaldijk and the Heerewaardense Afsluitdijk. The Driedijkenpunt is mentioned in the book "1000 places you really have to see". Well, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration.
The work of art "Stad aan de rivier" consists of two high granite slabs, between which a long bridge runs. The two granite slabs form a barrier between the city and the river landscape. At the foot of the stones lies a city of bronze containing all sorts of buildings from different cities of the world. On the other side you can see the flooded meadow landscape.
