Not the prettiest bridge and not the most idyllic cycle path - but since the ferry only runs very rarely, the faster connection is usually used.

On May 11, 1940, the Heusdense bridge (just like the bridge over the Heusdens canal) was blown up. The recovery lasted until the end of March 1941, but in 1944 it was hit again. It took until 1946 for the bridge to be repaired.
In 1971, the government handed over the bridge to the Province and in 1987 Provincial Water Management started the construction of a new concrete cable-stayed bridge, which was taken into use in 1989.
The old bridge, originally sold to Suriname for one guilder, was eventually demolished in March 1996.
