"Yellow crosses mark the course of the border on the curb and at street junctions. Popular with tourists are photos "With one leg in the Netherlands and one in Germany". Even the former Dutch Queen Beatrix only set foot on the German sidewalk in 1984 ( Hellweg 36). In doing so, she avoided a "state visit" that would certainly have been the shortest in history!"
