Excavation site of an ancient (4000 to 5000 years old) palace of the Minoans. The stop when you visit Matala is worth it, especially if you are almost alone there. A little more information material upon entry (8 euros per person is quite a lot for Crete) wouldn't be bad. Parts of the excavations are closed, which is a shame. The ancients knew exactly where they built their palaces, the view of the Ida Mountains from here is great.

The Discos of Phaistos, a disc of burnt clay, is one of the most important finds from the Bronze Age. He is provided with circular and spirally arranged abstraction, human, animal and subject motifs, which were impressed with individual stamps. The discos represents the first known "printing with movable type" of humanity, in the sense that for the first time a complete body of text with reusable characters was produced. Founded in 1908.
