Datteln-Hamm Canal at Uentrop

The Datteln-Hamm Canal is 50 km long and there is a cycle path along both sides of it, at least on one side. From Hamm (Uentrop power plant) to the mouth of Datteln. You cannot get lost along the canal and it offers many creatures and plants a very good habitat in and on the water.

The chainage of the canal runs from Datteln to Berg. The canal has a total length of 47.145 km[2] and has two locks at Hamm and Werries to compensate for the difference in height of 6.75 m.
The canal is crossed by 42 railway, road, path and pedestrian bridges as well as 1 conveyor belt bridge and crossed by 30 culverts and culverts and 38 pipe and cable culverts. In the event of an accident, the canal is equipped with two safety gates in Waltrop and Bergkamen, which allow the canal sections in front of and behind them to be closed so that the entire canal is not emptied.
