The large Alexander Nevsky anchor now stands in front of Harboøre Church.
At the unveiling of the Nevsky Anchor in Harboøre Church, Mayor Erik Flyvholm praised the heroism, hospitality and sacrifice of the local population.
About history:
The Russian frigate Alexander Nevsky, which struck the reef at Høfde 41 off Rønland at 2:30 a.m., September 25, 1868.
The fog and strong currents of the North Sea were partly to blame for the ship being so far off course. Throughout the night and morning, rescuers, local fishermen and the ship's crew struggled to rescue the 724 men aboard the Alexander Nevsky ashore. Among the 724 was the Tsar's son, Grand Duke Alexei.
The emergency anchor of the stranded Russian frigate Alexander Nevsky is now a symbol of the port of Thyborøn. The anchor was recovered by a wreck fisherman in 1958.
