Commemorating all Allied airmen lost in the IJsselmeer. The monument is shaped like a wing tip sticking out of the water. This symbolizes those who were lost forever. A broken wing, somewhere it doesn't belong - the same way these aviators disappeared far from their loved ones, somewhere they didn't belong.

Other activities
Over the course of World War II, over a hundred Allied planes crashed into the IJsselmeer, almost always with casualties. Human remains are found along the coast during the occupied period. Usually clothing or personal belongings provide some clue as to their identity, allowing these soldiers to be duly buried under their own names. Hundreds of war graves around the lake still remind us of the ultimate sacrifice of these crew members in the struggle for freedom and democracy. A significant number of airmen never received such a memorial because their bodies were never found.
