The chapel of Our Lady ten Hove is located at Kapelweg 13 in Mill. The origin of the current chapel is in the 15th century. It was a kind of field chapel with an altar for the residents and tenants of Mariënweerd Abbey.
This 15th-century chapel probably also had a predecessor, perhaps even from the early 12th century, the early days of the abbey.
When public practice of the Roman Catholic religion was banned after 1648, the architectural condition of the chapel quickly went downhill. In a drawing by Jan de Beijer from 1746, we see the chapel as a dilapidated ruin.
After a reconstruction and a thorough restoration, the chapel has now been restored to its former glory. Nowadays you can get married there, among other things.
The chapel has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries, possibly from the Middle Ages. Until the early 20th century, pilgrims flocked here around Easter to pray at the miraculous image of Mary. These pilgrimages continued as usual during the time of the Republic (1648-1795).
