Gaustritz was first mentioned in 1378 as Gusterticz (lizard village). At that time the village had the shape of a round hamlet. In the 15th century the diocese of Meissen had fiefs and other rights in the area. An early medieval Christian tombstone from the 11th century stands on the village square. Until the Thirty Years' War there was a mill with 2 grinding gears on today's Mühlberg am Geberbach. The farmers of the place joined the LPG friendship Golberode in 1960.
