The glorious history of almost 170,000 missions by the Ministry of the Interior and the ÖAMTC helicopters has also been marred by tragedies. In a helicopter crash during the rescue operation, among others, Dr. Ursula Schillfahrt (August 19, 1992). These tragedies show in a chilling way how dangerous the job of the emergency medical helicopter crews is. The rescuers from the air often risk their lives for others who consciously and negligently put themselves in great danger, for example when they intentionally ski down closed ski slopes.
