The zoo was opened on July 21, 1843, making it the oldest zoo in Belgium and one of the oldest zoos in the world. The zoo is located right next to Antwerp Central Station on the Koningin Astridplein in Antwerp. In the vernacular, this zoo is also called the zoo.
