The route of Autobahn 46 with some bridge pillars, underpasses and cuts in the terrain is considered to be the longest traffic ruins in Germany. Begun between 1937 and 1939, further construction was abandoned after the Second World War. Instead, the alternatively built A7 between Würzburg and Fulda was built on a route that better suited the traffic conditions and was geographically much less problematic.
