In the late 19th century Vancouver became a growing city with increasing shipping traffic in and out of Burrard Inlet. The 'Prospect Point Lighthouse' on the 'First Narrows' has been directing shipping traffic to Vancouver since 1888. However, its light was obscured by the dense forest of Stanley Park from the outbound shipping traffic.
