Representative station building designed by the Braunschweig court architect Carl Theodor Ottmer. The terminal station was in operation until 1960.

In 1838, the first German state railway started traffic between Braunschweig and Wolfenbüttel. The former sack station was a Ottmer building in the Gothic style, but was rebuilt in the years 1843/45 in late Classicist style. This building was largely destroyed by bombing in 1944 and replaced in 1960 by a new transit station outside the city center. From the old station, the head structure has been preserved, whose facade is dominated by a triumphal arch motif.

A great photo stop but also a nice starting point for tours.
