As a defensive tower, the Kiek in de Mark supports the medieval fortifications of the city of Pasewalk. Very attractive even in the dark.

The Kiek in de Mark in Pasewalk is a defense tower of the medieval city wall. It is considered the landmark of Pasewalk. The tower is located at the southern end of the street “Am Kiek in de Mark” in the southern part of the city center. The structure is a multi-storey, round brick tower with a striking crenellated crown and an octagonal, unplastered helmet. There is a stork's nest at the top of the tower. The floor plan of the 20.2 meter high tower has a square substructure made of field stones with a side length of 4.6 meters. It merges into a cylindrical shape at a steep angle. The fortified tower was built in 1445 after the siege was successfully repelled by the Brandenburg Elector Friedrich II. This tried to restrict urban autonomy in his dominion.According to legend, the Pasewalkers brought about 200 prisoners with them from the subsequent campaign to Prenzlau. These could only be released against payment of a large ransom. From this ransom, the Pasewalkers built a tower on the south side of their city wall, which was then called "Kiek in de Mark".

Imposing building, you simply have to see it when you are in Pasewalk.
