Bad Mergentheim Marketplace

A beautiful town with a gothic carved altar by Tilman Riemenschneider in the Marienkirche.

A really nice city center. Definitely worth a detour to the city center.

The Milchlingsbrunnen is also located on the market square of Bad Mergentheim. The figure of the fountain shows a knight leaning on a shield with the coat of arms of Grand Master Wolfgang Schutzbar.The fountain was completed by 1548 at the latest. However, local historian Carl Lüllig proves that the Deutschmeister Schutzbar (also known as Milchling) did not build this fountain and that the statue on the fountain is not his. The supposed milkling figure seems to be more a depiction of Roland, who is regularly depicted as a knight with a sword.
The square is framed by the old town hall and many other half-timbered houses.
