This small 'chocolate box' village is not quite as understated as it seems. Due to its closeness in proximity to Elstree Studio, it has been featured in quite the array of televisions and films.

Whilst it's probably best known internationally for its appearances in The Dirty Dozen and Bridget Jone's Diary, it's also featured in British gems such as Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse and The Avengers.

With ancient timber-framed cottages and a historic inn clustered around the duck pond where an old set of stocks still stand, it feels like time has stood still for centuries in Aldbury. The village — recognised as a conservation area — has two pubs, cafes, shops, restaurants, and accommodation.

Road cycling

A beautiful chocolate-box village with half-timbered cottages, Aldbury is a gem. In the village centre, stocks and a well-preserved whipping-post stand next to a green pond, paying homage to days gone by. The village also has an alehouse dating back to 1752 - The Valiant Trooper. There are also various manor houses in the village.
