The Lamaria Church was built in the 10th century and is dedicated to St. Mary. Around it is a rock wall and inside there are frescoes that are slowly weathering. In the middle of the church you can see a fresco depicting Jesus. Usually the interior of the church is lit with candles, which gives it a mysterious touch. Every year on August 28th, people from all over Georgia gather to celebrate St. Mary's Day.

Hiking

The small church from the 11th century and a fortified tower are surrounded by a wall on a hill above Ushguli.

Inside there are remains of frescoes, the church is made of slate and clad with sandstone.
The location together with the defense tower above Ushguli is sensational, and the view is correspondingly beautiful.

The view from the village towards Shkhara is a popular tourist subject.
