Romaney emerged from a presumably late medieval settlement that was first mentioned in 1448 as "Rumenye". Around 1450 the settlement seems to have been deserted. In the first half of the 16th century, the farm is listed among the feudal estates of the Strauweiler lordship in Odenthal.

In the mid-19th century, several mines in the Romaney area were leased for iron ore mining. The two largest were the Albert mine, awarded on May 22, 1849, and the Prinz Wilhelm mine, awarded on September 21, 1848.
