Romanesque church with beautiful reliefs and capitals from the High Middle Ages.
The church was first mentioned in a document in the Lombard period in the 9th century (854). It basically got its current form in the 11th century.
A place of silence on the rather hectic section of the Via Francigena.
At the neighboring Fornovo tourist office, we were asked if we would like to be photographed for social media. In return, we received small pieces of Parmigiano as a gift.

The charming Romanesque parish church, dedicated to St. Mary of the Assumption (11th century), shows numerous adaptations and reconstructions: the important façade, with a simple pointed roof, was originally a shelter and protection for pilgrims. The precious 13th century sculptures of the Antelamic school, almost randomly distributed over the façade, represent fragments of structures that, with the altar at the front, may have been inside, to decorate a pulpit or an ambo. A marble slab from the 13th century.

Near the portal, a headless statue carries the signs of the pilgrimage: the saddlebags, the staff and the keys, symbolic access to the basilicas of Rome. Inside, it is still possible to recognize the original structure with three naves, with the narthex in front. The church is open to visitors every day from 8:00 to 12:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00.
