If you're wondering why the smaller lock sits unused next to the new lock at Niffer, which was completed in the 1990s, you'll have to do some history digging. Because this lock was designed by Le Corbusier in the 1950s and has been a listed building since 2005. The worst damage caused by years of neglect is currently being repaired and from the end of 2023 the buildings are to be made accessible to the public as a museum.
