The building permit granted for the Johanna also mentioned its use as an oil mill and the mill may have been equipped as such. There was also a sawing mill in the Johanna.
During the Second World War the mill was used to grind grain and generate electricity.
In the 1960s the mill fell into disrepair. It was sold to the municipality of Huijbergen in 1966, which immediately had it restored. The mill was made ready for grinding in the years 1968/1969. Nowadays, volunteer millers keep the mill running regularly.

The mountain flour mill "Johanna" (1862) keeps alive the memory that the search for energy sources is more than centuries old. The mill was purchased in 1966 by the then municipality of Huijbergen, renovated and restored. On May 10, 1975, National Mill Day, the mill was put back into operation. The mill, which still runs regularly, enjoys the designation "national monument".
Tip: the mill can be visited when the flag is flying.
