In memory of the synagogue of the Jewish community of Kalkar, which was destroyed by the National Socialists in 1938, a picture panel of an eight-armed Hanukkah candlestick designed by the artist Eva Sand was erected here in 2006. A copper plate is attached to a text panel next to it; it is the only surviving depiction of the no longer existing synagogue.
