Around the year 1260, the nobles of Keyberg, one of the most important Franconian noble families, founded the Keyau Monastery, which is dedicated to the Mother of God and the Sorrowful Holy Trinity. In the vernacular, the pilgrimage to the pilgrimage church is firmly anchored as the "Keyau monastery pilgrimage". Cistercian nuns from Mariaburghausen (town of Haßfurt) were the first nuns in Schlüsselau. In addition to the miraculous image in the high altar of the church, which shows God the Father holding his dead son in his lap, with the dove floating above it as a symbol of the Holy Spirit, a larger than life, artistically significant crucifix from the second half of the 14th century dominates the wall of the nave in the 1730 baroque church.
